NEGGY GEMMY + ESPRIT + DEATH’S DYNAMIC SHROUD AT DULING HALL WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26

meet Neggy gemmy

Neggy Gemmy’s (FKA Negative Gemini) heartfelt electronic pop is built around duality. In astrology, Geminis represent polarity and though Lindsey French—the producer, singer, and songwriter behind the name—is an upbeat Sagittarius, her music has always been linked to that idea. The Los Angeles-based artist delivers sparkling vocal hooks alongside angst-ridden missives, and floating atmospherics with chest-caving bass. She’s constantly swerving and shapeshifting as her interests and surroundings change: no two releases are quite alike, yet within all of their DNA lies a magnetic songwriting sensibility that makes you want to sing, chant, and scream along with her.

meet esprit

ESPRIT began in 2012 as the sample-based side-project of electronic pop artist “George Clanton.” ESPRIT’s first two EP’s Girls Only and Summer Night are still considered essential listening for any newcomers to the vaporwave genre. In 2014, when vaporwave was still defined by its use of found music and manipulated samples, ESPRIT released his Virtua.zip LP composed entirely of original material. In the 3 years since its release, the vaporwave scene at large has followed this trend.

After Virtua.zip, the ESPRIT series was put on hold while George Clanton’s eponymous project’s 100% Electronica LP released in late 2015. Now 3 years later, ESPRIT returns with both the successor to Virtua.zip and the sister album to 100% Electronica together in one piece.

200% Electronica combines fully original compositions in ESPRIT’s classic vaporwave style with chopped & screwed samples pulled from George Clanton’s own songs, inspired by two years of touring with nothing but a Roland SP 404-SX.

meet DEATH’S DYNAMIC SHROUD

death’s dynamic shroud (alternatively death’s dynamic shroud.wmv) is a collaborative project between James Webster (also known as HCMJ), Tech Honors and Keith Rankin (known to create music as Giant Claw and operate Orange Milk Records). death’s dynamic shroud typically samples video game soundtracks in a mixtape-style format, oftentimes with special distortions and modifications made as a result of being bounced off analog recordings. In 2015, with the creation of I’ll Try Living Like This, Keith Rankin’s addition to the group brought a much more high-fidelity, experimental sound (including sampling of anime soundtracks and k-pop) to the music, a shift that has helped the group form their distinct sound and visual aesthetic they personally refer to as “NUWRLD”. Around the time of Heavy Black Heart, the group decided to use a variation of the death’s dynamic shroud name without the file extension, now used to denote the newer, less “classical” albums from the previous mixtapes.
